Test product photography against the drinks and offers customers can buy

Evaluate coffee-shop creative with truthful product details, current availability, readable mobile crops, and a defined purchase-focused test.

Illustrative artwork, not a photograph of an actual shop product. Real product photography should match the verified offer.

A beautiful coffee photograph can earn attention while misrepresenting the drink, portion or offer a customer will receive. The useful creative decision is whether the image helps someone choose an available product under clear conditions. Visual polish matters, but it should serve that decision.

Begin with the product and offer facts, then plan the photograph and test. Keep actual product evidence separate from illustrative campaign artwork. A generated scene can communicate an idea, but it should not pretend to document the shop's real drink, venue or customer result.

Write an offer card before producing the image

Record the drink or menu item, portion, relevant ingredients, location, available times, price conditions and any offer restriction. Have the responsible owner confirm the facts.

Decide which details must appear in the advertisement and which need to be clear on the destination. A seasonal item requires an availability check. A drink shown with an extra topping should not imply the topping is included when it is an additional purchase.

Give the creative file a reference to the approved offer card. That makes it easier to retire or correct an asset when the menu changes.

Use the image for a specific question

A product close-up can help someone recognize the drink. A portion comparison can explain size. A menu grouping can help choose between available options. Each image should have one primary job.

Avoid adding decorative objects that obscure that job. For example, a catering tray may suggest bulk availability when the campaign only promotes individual walk-in orders. A styled cup that differs from the serving format may confuse the offer.

The destination should continue the same promise. Our Google Ads Message Match: From Query to Landing Page explains why an attractive image cannot compensate for a page describing a different product.

Separate illustrative art from product evidence

Use a real verified product photograph when the image is intended to show what the customer will receive. If artwork is illustrative, label and use it appropriately. Do not fabricate a receipt, rating, queue or popularity claim inside the visual.

Google's Image link provides product-image requirements for that particular surface. Advertising placements and organic article images have their own needs, so one master should not be treated as universally compliant.

Keep original files and approved crops. A crop that removes a material condition or changes the apparent portion can undermine the clarity of the original image.

A hypothetical two-image test

Imagine a shop wants to compare a drink close-up with a simple menu-and-price composition. In this hypothetical test, both variants use the same verified offer, destination and campaign conditions.

The team defines the primary outcome as observed purchases under its approved measurement method. It also records clicks and landing-page visits as diagnostic signals. The close-up receives more clicks, but the menu composition produces more observed purchases per unit of spend.

That result would support investigating the purchase evidence, not automatically declaring the second image permanently superior. Check sample size, attribution, date effects and whether one variant had different serving opportunities.

The test should state in advance what decision it is meant to inform. If the only reliable outcome is clicks, describe it as an attention test rather than a sales test.

Design the portrait version deliberately

A horizontal blog master should not be cropped blindly into a narrow advertisement. Recompose the product, headline and offer conditions for the portrait placement. Keep the meaningful product detail and ensure the text remains readable on a phone.

Use generous separation between the image, price information and next action. Test the visual at the size people will actually see. If a condition is important, do not rely on a tiny disclaimer to rescue a misleading headline.

For the article version, Google’s Google image SEO best practices recommends contextual image information, including useful alt text. Describe the image accurately rather than filling the field with promotional keywords.

Keep comparison conditions stable

Change one meaningful visual decision at a time. If the second photograph also introduces a discount, different audience and new landing page, the observed result cannot identify the photograph's effect.

Our Google Ads Experiments: Test Changes Without Guessing explains the broader principle of a defined comparison. Use a platform-supported test only where access, sample and budget support it.

For a small shop, an organized creative record still helps even when the result is inconclusive. Save the offer, variant, exposure period, measurement method and decision rather than keeping only the image with the highest clickthrough rate.

Review availability during the test

A test loses meaning if the promoted drink sells out on one variant's stronger day. Record known stock interruptions and changes to hours or menu conditions.

Do not imply an item is available everywhere if only one location serves it. If the offer ends, retire its derivatives, including blog illustrations reused as display ads. The creative library needs a responsible owner as much as the menu does.

The Image Assets on Search Campaigns: When to Turn Them Off can help review a specific advertising format. Verify its current requirements before submission.

Choose the next asset from evidence

Select the visual that best supports the verified offer and the decision the test can establish. Keep purchase evidence, attention signals and unresolved uncertainty separate.
